The Humber Bridge is a private road, with 50mph limits on it. However, there are drivers who do not stick to this limit, and often tailgate the drivers in front to make those cars increase their speed beyond 50mph. When there is an accident caused by poor driving, in which speed is often a factor, it may close 1 lane, if not both of them, going North or Southbound. This causes queues of traffic trying to get to work, or go home to their families after work, as they have to wait for emergency services and recovery vehicles to attend. Accidents may involve damage to the road surface and/or crash barriers, which in turn have to be repaired, causing more delays. The fact that there are speed limits posted over the Bridge, but are not currently monitored and enforced, it would seem the only way to ensure that the 50 limit is adhered to, is by placing cameras along the bridge. By signing this petition you are showing your support for road safety. The road is maintained by the Humber Bridge Board, this petition is to raise awareness that the people using the Bridge want to cross it in a safely manner. The Humber Bridge Board can then liase with Humberside Police and request the cameras be placed on the bridge.
