Get Sherrif Flener out of Reynolds
Get Sherrif Flener out of Reynolds
The Issue
Lorianne Could Not Breathe...
It was at Reynolds High School, October 17th, 2022 when Sheriff Flener body-slammed, kneeled on and practically suffocated her 'til she could barely plead for him to get off.
Prior to that traumatizing moment, Lorianne was a witness to a fight that broke out during their lunch passing time. With barely any staff around to prevent the fight --which allegedly happened over a threat to shank one of the other students involved-- one of Lorianne's cousins, Leilani, was pulled down to the floor by her hair. Leilani was also a bystander and was not apart of the brawl whatsoever.
After the fight was broken up, still personally affected, Lorianne acted out of anger and threw one punch to the student's face. This student being the same one who pulled Leilani's hair.
Flener pulled Lorianne's hoodie, which choked her. Body-slammed her to the floor and kneeled over her chest as she was begging him to stop. Barely able to speak, she still pleaded for him to stop.
She couldn't breathe.
Aside from her actions being wrong,
How is it that she was not the aggressor, but was still met with the consequences that left her with bruises caused by Reynolds High School's Sheriff Flener?
Lorianne was dismissed from school with suspension and was brought to the hospital that same night to treat her contusions.
The other students were sent home untouched by staff/adults, but she went home feeling violated. Sore, physically and mentally bruised and upset that an adult twice her size assaulted her over something that could've been handled WAY differently.
With so many questions and concerns, her mother (Lorina) went back to RHS the next day to speak with their Vice Principal Archie. The one thing Lorina asked for was the school's surveillance footage, but Archie refused to show it. Lorianne's own mother has not been allowed to see the footage of her assault.
If an Officer acts the same way Flener did, towards something that could have been handled in a different and professional matter, imagine how the rest of the school year will be with potential fights, threats or disagreements. Should a student, a MINOR, be man-handled and assaulted such as the way Lorianne was? She is not a criminal, but it seems as though Flener treated her like she was.
She acted out of witnessing her own family being violated but she was turned into the threat.
FLENER NEEDS TO GO, we cannot risk another student potentially getting mistreated instead of being corrected. There is no justification for treating a child like this whatsoever.
P.S. Reynolds can allow staff; SMT Dicario AKA "Hopscotch" to walk around their school campus after insulting Lorianne's situation saying she deserved it, but won't allow her OWN PARENTS to watch the footage of her being harmed in an environment that was meant to keep her and school peers, like Leilani and the other kids involved in the scuffle SAFE.
Signing, sharing and simply just reading this petition can help a lot, our goal with this story is to keep our community informed, and to hopefully get an explanation from Reynolds High School including the camera footage, and an immediate removal of the Sheriff from the Reynolds School District.
Thank you.
