Penn State Football just changed the student ticket process and turned it into a luck based lottery system. Their reasoning is that this new way of getting tickets will level the playing field and allow everyone to have a equal chance of getting their season pass. In the past, students were required to get up early and log onto Ticketmaster and anxiously wait in the waiting room for their chance of getting their tickets. While this did not always result in tickets it still favored the dedicated fans who made the effort to try. Another benefit of the previous method is that it helped reduce ticket scalpers. We are all too familiar with seeing different student forums being immediately flooded with scalpers as soon as the tickets are sold out with season passes going for x2 the original amount. This new method of getting tickets will increase the number of student tickets that fall into the hands of scalpers as it makes the process of getting tickets more accessible to those who don't want to put in the effort. Not to mention the demand for tickets from scalpers will skyrocket which will lead to higher prices for those who really want tickets.

Tickets have always and should continue to favor the dedicated fans who make the effort to get them. And if it means that the only time you can get tickets are from 7:00 to 7:30 on some random weekday in the summer, then the people who want them will be ready. It is this determination in every ticketholder that helps make us the best student section in the nation and makes every game so memorable.
