On Friday September 2nd, a fight broke out at Pekin Community School in Packwood Iowa. This fight broke out in a study hall room setting and was recorded. It took over 40 seconds for the ‘supervisor’ to “break up” the fight. However, this fight was planned prior to the class period as the person doing the attacking had someone recording her from the beginning. This goes to show that it was premeditated. This wasn’t a cat fight or two girls fighting fairly, the girl who was attacked was kicked in the head not once, not twice but THREE times, all of which could have been deadly. The only disciplinary action the assailant is receiving is being suspended from school for 10 days! TEN DAYS for the girl who was attacked to “get over it” or “heal” from the damage that has been done, not only on the outside but inside as well. This girl will live with the trauma of that day for the rest of her life. She has to fear being face to face with her abuser once she is allowed back into school. There is no saying if the abuser will retaliate against her and her family and the fact that this is not the abusers first record of fighting and it won’t stop here. Pekin Comminity School district has not protected the children of their school with the punishments they are issuing after this happened to one of their students, and as a community we need to band together and show the school we will stand up for our students even if they won’t. The girl needs to be expelled and never allowed back.
