Ban Jumps Racing

The issue

Jumps racing is illegal in New South Wales and has been discontinued in all Australian states and territories except Victoria and South Australia. It extends from March to September each year and leaves a trail of equine deaths and injuries in its wake. The Animal Justice Party’s “Get Over It” campaign is aiming at a legislative ban in Victoria and South Australia.

The Animal Justice Party has been established to give voice to those who have none – to pursue the vital issues of animal protection through the Australian Parliamentary System.

Jumps racing is a cruel and hazardous form of entertainment. Within 3 weeks of the start of the 2014 jumps racing calendar, 2 horses were killed (RIP: Viva Delspec and Black Moon). During the Easter Weekend alone, Riviera Star and Jooli Lad fell and were injured. Pure Quartz, San Miedo and Must Bid were killed during a flat race, which indicates how dangerous and deadly racing already is without introducing the jumps factor. It must be emphasised that the injuries these horses sustained are not always life threatening; they are killed because they are considered wastage and treating their injuries will diminish profits.

We are very concerned about injured horses since most are slaughtered for dog food once they are deemed "unproductive". There is no retirement plan and being sent to the knackery is all the thanks they get for their hard work. These are but some of the reasons for which the Get Over It campaign was started.

The Animal Justice Party is working with the Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses to eradicate this abuse of horses. We need your help to show the racing fraternity and Premiers of Victoria and South Australia that we want jumps racing banned forever.

Please sign the petition and share widely if you wish to see this cruelty stopped.

Getting it banned may seem like a hurdle, but we will GET OVER IT!
