The law in Georgia  has no requirement for the length of recess during the school day. Unfortunately this means most children are getting precious few minutes to play outside. Research demonstrates that 1 hour of recess during the school day does so much good. Off task behavior reduces by 40%, 120 minutes of instruction time is gained, math scores increase by 10%, reading by 7%, there is a 7% decrease in unhealthy BMI, AND the kids are less stressed and happier! Our teachers and schools do amazing work, and we know they are trying so hard to teach and prepare our children, but we need to restore balance and bring the important learning that comes from recess back to Georgia's public schools.
