As support for this campaign continues to grow I’m delighted to share that another vital government organisation are now taking action. Ofted, who monitor school standards are updating their inspection framework to also assess levels of mental health support in schools.
This new framework would come into affect from September 2019 and we have been asked to be part of the consultation on this before the details are finalised. More information will follow but here is part of a quote they gave us on these changes:
‘We agree that mental health and well-being are important issues, which is why children’s personal development will be one of the four judgements proposed for the new Education Inspection Framework.’
This is a major step forward in changing the culture in schools to support young people in their mental health. It should also take some of the pressure off schools to succeed on grades alone.
For further discussion on just how transformative mental health education could be for young people take a listen to the latest episode of Mental Podcast. In the episode I interview Carol Lilley on how coaching can be incredibly powerful in changing how we manage our mental health. She also shares how helping young people reduce unhealthy thought patterns or negative beliefs about themselves supports their growth into healthier and happier adults.
You can find the episode on Apple Podcast, Stitcher, Spotify or on our website.
Lastly we’re nearly at 200,000 signatures so keep sharing. Together we can hold those in power to account on mental health education.
Many thanks, Bobby Temps
