Get Melody disqualified from Eurovision 2025 for doing blackface

Get Melody disqualified from Eurovision 2025 for doing blackface
Il problema
In December 2013, singer Melodía Ruiz Gutiérrez, best known by her stage name Melody, participated to Tu cara me suena, a Spanish TV show hosted by broadcaster Antena 3. During the show, Melody imitated many famous artists, including American singer Gloria Gaynor, whom she portrayed through the use of blackface.
12 years later, on 1 February 2025, Melody won Benidorm Fest, and is now set to represent Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest, an event that's known for promoting diversity and acceptance, among other things.
Throughout its long history, a wide variety of artists have taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest, including members of the black community. This fact alone makes Melody's participation in the contest quite outrageous, as blackface has historically been used to mock black people, and is still very controversial to this day.
Melody has acknowledged her use of blackface, as evidenced by her controversial performance being hosted on her official website, and has yet to apologize for it. Unfortunately, she doesn’t seem interested in doing so, meaning her participation in the contest could lead to backlash from fans, while also tarnishing the reputation of RTVE, the broadcaster that’ll represent Spain alongside Melody herself.
A few Eurovision fans are already aware of this problematic part of Melody’s past, and their reaction to it has been mixed to negative. This petition exists to help spread awareness on this situation, as well as to get a better idea on what fans' general consensus on it is like.
If you've felt offended by Melody’s act, and believe she should be disqualified from the contest and replaced by a less controversial artist, sign this petition.
