Highland Park, NJ is a self-proclaimed "green community", however, its recycling collection practices produce litter that is both an eyesore for our community, damaging to our environment, and is incompatible with the "green" image the borough has tried to cultivate. 

Unlike garbage containers, there are no borough supplied recycling containers. This means that everyone uses their own containers, most of which lack lids. The once per week collection schedule coupled with a significant increase in recycling volume (more people online shopping, more deliveries, boxes, etc) and lighter plastic materials mean that on a windy day, contents blow out of overfilled recycling bins onto our streets, sidewalks, and ultimately land in the Raritan River over time.

Tell the mayor and borough council that is enough is enough! It is time for the borough to purchase recycling toters WITH LIDS for use in ALL commercial and residential properties. Every surrounding town has had them for years and it is time that Highland Park live up to its green image.
