Get Felix Morelo Off Our Sidewalks

The Issue

Felix Morelo is a street artist originally popular for his “good luck” spots.

However, recently his sidewalk messaging has become increasingly dark and dangerous. From “bad luck” spots to “racist” spots, he has begun spreading negativity throughout the city.

Most egregiously he has begun creating “suicide” spots. This is deeply disturbing. With an ongoing mental health crisis in this city, a city that is already known for being isolating, it is irresponsible to be spreading such messaging.

Ive already encountered a man who lost his son to suicide who was deeply disturbed by the spots. And I can’t help but worry about someone who is already contemplating taking their life seeing the spots and seeing them as confirmation of their feelings.

Life is beautiful, especially in NYC. And we as a community must fight against this negative and reckless messaging.

This petition is to call for Felix Morelo’s art to be banned from public spaces. While everyone’s right to free speech is something that must be upheld, “suicide” spots prove to be a public health hazard. City parks departments should be held responsible to clean up Felix’s outrageous chalk messaging. Furthermore, the parks and police department should work to stop Felix from creating these spots.

New York City is full of life, joy, and hope. We must not let Felix Morelo destroy that.
