Get City of Mount Gambier council to reconsider community animal impound funding for SEAWL
The issue
City of Mount Gambier council are not continuing the funding to support the South East Animal Welfare League. This establishment is the only one of its kind, as acknowledged by the council's own report, that has the facilities to be able to manage the impounding of animals in the city of Mount Gambier and District Council of Grant council areas. SEAWL has already been providing these services for the last 5 years. Ratepayers are being excluded from the conversation by a confidential resolution. Council are now using funds to run their own facility, which they neglected to have appropriately approved prior to beginning.
A better solution needs to be found than replication of services already being provided.
This is an important service for our community that could be enhanced through already established facilities.
A council meeting is being held next week to discuss and action this process further, without input from the public.
