Get Chris Illitch to sell the Detroit Red Wings
The Issue
Growing up in Detroit, the Red Wings were more than just a hockey team—they were the heart and soul of our city. For years, we rallied behind our beloved team, celebrated their triumphs, and took pride in our rich history. However, over the past decade, something has changed. Our once-glorious team has been struggling under the current ownership of Chris Illitch, and it’s time we take action to restore the Red Wings to their former glory.
Since Chris Illitch took over operations, the team's performance has been lackluster with dwindling playoff appearances and a string of losing seasons. We’ve seen beloved players leave and questionable management decisions that have only weakened our lineup. Financial decisions appear driven by profit rather than passion for the team or respect for the fan's dedication.
Despite being one of the most successful franchises historically, the Red Wings have seen a severe decline in morale, overall performance, and fan engagement. According to NHL statistics, our playoff drought is one of the longest in recent team history, alienating a fan base that used to pack Joe Louis Arena and now the Little Caesars Arena with unmatched enthusiasm.
We understand that ownership is a business, but it must also be about passion for the team and the community it represents. The Illitch family has given a lot to Detroit, notably with the Tigers and the city's revitalization efforts, but it has become apparent that under Chris Illitch, the priorities do not align with the legacy of the Red Wings.
Our proposal is not just a change in ownership; it's about reigniting the passion for hockey in Detroit. By selling the team to someone with a deep love for the sport and a commitment to restoring the Red Wings, we can return to winning seasons and renew the pride of our great city.
Please join in signing this petition to urge Chris Illitch to sell the Detroit Red Wings. Together, we can ensure that the legacy of the Red Wings continues to shine brightly, honoring the past and paving the way for a more thrilling future.
