Get charges dropped and job back for Dexter Animal Shelters leader
The Issue
In our community, most people love dogs. Accidents happen, dogs get lose. Nobody is ever there to blame. People just need somebody to help with the accidents that may happen. Many people can agree that they are protective of their dogs, so if your dog was taken would you really stand back and do nothing. The suspension of her and the closure of the Dexter Animal Shelter impacts so so so many people. Even if you don’t have a dog, would you like a bad stray to be messing with your dogs instead of being rehabilitated and given a second chance?
This is a first hand account of what happened, from a person that’s always been honest to the community on stories about dogs and has proven herself to be nothing but trustworthy. “I’m always honest with you guys and I’m not going to stop now.
Monday night my dog was taken by someone here in Bloomfield. I have the screen shots where he claimed to pick up my dog and then said he took her back and dropped her off at the Bloomfield Dollar General. He did not.
I went around to every business in town. Gave my number, begged them to call me if they seen her. We had numerous responses and shares.
I was going to go down and file a report that my dog had been stolen when someone sent me a picture of my dog out on a county rd. OF COURSE. I took off to find her. There are not many houses on that road. The person who sent me the picture described a house she may be close to.
Of course when we see the house we stop. It had a lot of dogs and my dog loves other dogs. A friend of mine got out and asked if she had seen a dog. They lady came out screaming and cussing saying “yeah, you’re accusing my son of stealing her.” She continued screaming and then called 911. A friend told her fine, call them and let them know you were in possession of a stolen dog. She replied with “yeah, you’re not allowed pit bulls inside city limits.” In which my friend replied “she doesn’t live inside city limits. I never even got out. As I was trying to back up to go look for my dog my tire went off in her ditch. (That was a good time as my car rides low to the ground.)
We ended up getting it out and took off down the road. We walked, screamed, drove all over. (My dog is deaf, has bad hips, and is older.) We stopped every car that passed us until we finally got the right one.
My baby was found about a half mile away from this ladies home. I GOT MY BABY BACK. She had ticks all over her. Just fell into our arms because she was so worn out. There’s no way my dog made it miles and miles away from my home. I think we can all do the math on how she got there.
That was the end of it for me. I didn’t try to go press charges because I got my baby home.
About an hour later a deputy calls me and says “Hey, I need to come talk to you.” I said sure, come on by. I told him what happened. Let him read my phone where he could see I didn’t threaten anyone.
Low and behold myself and my friend received a citation for “assault in the 4th degree.” This is because apparently we yelled, cussed, and threatened her. All because we asked if she had seen my dog.
This has placed my job for the Police Department on the line because I’ve been accused of an assault.
I’ve been placed on suspension until an investigation has been done. I’ve been treated less than friendly through out all of this.
I don’t know what will happen from here. I don’t know who will be taking over my shelter. I don’t know when the investigation will be over and I don’t know how long I’ll have access to the shelter page at all.
But I couldn’t leave you all with out an explanation. This is not to bash anyone at all. I know most people are just doing their jobs.
I just want you guys to know how much I appreciate you. An how this job has been my life for the last four years and I couldn’t have done it with out each and every one of you.
I hope if things some how end up not in my favor you will continue to support my replacement. In the end it’s all about the dogs. I’m heart broken, speechless, and a ball of tears at this time.
But I want you all to know how much you mean to me and have meant to me. It’s been such an honor to know such wonderful people.
Thank you for your support as always!
I can’t discuss it any further; just know the dept is just doing their job and hopefully everything is resolved soon.
