On August 25th, 2026. Amazon had a Town Hall in the city of Shreveport. This would be the 2nd Data Center that is planned to be in Louisiana.  Another Data Center that wasn't placed on any ballots for those cities to vote on. As a citizen of Shreveport, I ask of my fellow neighbors to voice out about this gross disrespect to us. Our State Senators,  State Representatives, and Local Officials have failed us. We need to band together and call them out for failing and voting them out, comes this Midterms.

This should go double for Bossier Parish, as they are going to be looped in with this incoming Amazon Data Center, as they plan to place 2 in Shreveport and 1 in our sister city of Bossier City.

The people in charge of these project will claim that is will bring jobs and prosperity to our state. Yet if was, why would they hide these announcements and plans from the general public? Many of these elected officials had mentioned that they are under strict NDAs. They are public officials, why are they signing NDAs, and against their own citizens? This is an illegal and immoral action against the people they were elected to serve!

For those that aren’t aware about how Data Centers work. Allow this small essay bring you up to speed. The common costs of having a data center in the local area will be the sharp and sudden increase in electric use in the city. Yet, to my knowledge, Swepco hasn’t done its due diligence to announce any plans of how they will deal with Amazon’s power bill. Which should alarm all residents, since it’s more than likely that they have no real plan. They will simply allow Amazon, a multi-billion-dollar company, to pull as much power from the grid. Making us, the residents, pay those costs. Across the country, this is a common trend, that the local electric companies will either broker small energy rates deals or resident trade-off deals. Meaning at the end, we will have to pay higher bills across the board. This will cripple Louisiana even more, due to our Power Grid wasn't built to handle these expected increase in the power load.

As well, the issue with local water treatment. In our city of Shreveport, we are already dealing with cases of poor water quality cases in the past 11 months. Some parts of this city still have bad water. Not to include the Bossier water issue. For those that lives in the Pines Rd area, you may still have brown water periodically. I live only a block away from our town’s water and sewage treatment center. In the past 2 years, I seen more and more trucks doing repairs. Our water system is very outdated, and that’s saying something since I was born in Flint, MI. I know that having clean water should be a human right. Yet, if Amazon build that Data Center, we are going to have more water failures than what we had in the past 5 years, in the matter of months.  This is a preventable crisis.

If this data center project goes forward, there will be a major noise complaint. The noise of the fans, and servers; it’s estimated to be from 75db to 95db. Per day. This can be heard from miles from the center. Imagine, hearing this from as far out to Highlands, Claiborne, Captain Shreve, Barksdale Base, Greenwoods and even Downtown. Not to mention the traffic increase while this center is going to be built.

For those that doesn’t know. In Holly Ridge, in Richland, the parish that is to the far east of our state. Has a Meta Data Center that is currently going through hell. That data center is expected to house their own power grid, that can power all of Manhattan for a year, all for a local AI data center. It should be known, that the citizens didn’t vote to have that center to be made. The sheer disruption in the quality of life, has made nearly 1/3 of the residents had to move out of their family's hometowns. The quality of the water and air, has dropped so drastically, that its negatively affecting the elderly in the area.  In fact, the more that I looked into it, the more illegal the entire operation seems to be. I wish I can say more, yet I feel its in every person’s duty to research it. I will say this, most of the land that used, was originally zoned to be for public use. Not private use.

With more of these Data Center, it should be noted that companies like Flock and Axion are soon to come to our state and try to set up cameras that openly break our rights under the 4th Amendment.  Its already well-known that anyone can request access to the cameras and their logs. Around the country, we have seen police, FBI, CIA, foreign officials, and even pedophiles use the cameras that are supposed to look at car license plates, to spy on former lovers, children, and social rivals. All without warrants and legal reasons. This is a breach in social privacy. This must not be allowed in our state, much less the country.

In closing, I believe that housing a data center in this city will not bring jobs here. It will lead to the death of this city and our state. We will be paying for it for the rest of our days. Since this very data center wasn’t even placed on our ballots to vote on. So, I hope that everyone here agrees that we need to vote this coming November and keep this data center out of our city. If Jeff Bezos want a Data Center so bad, he can put it in his own backyard! If Mark Zuckerberg wants to house his data center in our farmlands, he can place it in his own front lawn. If our elected officials wants these Data Centers and soon Public Cameras, then have them pointed in their own residences before they try to shove it down our throats.
