The Issue

Vandiver, Alabama is a quaint mountain town in Shelby County, just 20 minutes southeast of Birmingham. Residents of Vandiver’s Lake View Circle are being denied access to clean, running water due to the consequences of Alabama Power's fiber optic drilling project. It all began on January 21, 2025, when the residential wells started drying up. This natural water supply was hit and depleted due to the drilling activities in the region. What was once a regular, basic necessity in their households has now become an ungraspable luxury.

No community should have to fight for clean drinking water. Unfortunately, that's the position of the over 12 households in Vandiver — a number quickly rising. A quick fix will not do here — the environmental damage done is irreversible. Vandiver homeowners find themselves in the dire situation of having no guarantee of obtaining clean, potable water through wells.

What is even more unfortunate is the fact that city water, a solution to the problem, isn't currently accessible in the Lake View Circle community. Alabama Power has a moral and social responsibility to address this issue they've inadvertently created.

The Vandiver community humbly asks for your support in spreading awareness for their situation, in hopes of calling Alabama Power to action to install and establish clean city water in Vandiver as a redress for the harm their actions have caused the people living here.

We, the residents of Vandiver, Alabama, are calling on every concerned citizen, organization, and entity to join this petition. A petition demanding our access to a basic necessity — our right to clean, safe, running water. We demand that this should be addressed urgently before the lack of access to water further impacts our health, way of life, and environment. Please, sign our petition and demand that Alabama Power rectify their mistakes by ensuring our access to clean water with city water.

**PLEASE NOTE** Donations for purchasing views are NOT necessary. Your support is greatly appreciated, but please know your money does not directly support those without water. Money raised goes to promoting the campaign.

Your money and good intentions are greatly appreciated, but your efforts would be better spent sharing the petition link to friends, family, coworkers, classmates, communities, etc. and increasing signatures that way.

Marina WallPetition StarterI'm just one of the dozens of people who are without running water in Vandiver after AL Power's drilling project depleted the natural groundwater source. My neighbors and I are advocating to have city water installed to guarantee safe water in the future.
