Recently the Humane Society of the United States released an undercover video taken at a well-known and prize winning Tennessee Walking Horse training facility located in Collierville, Tennessee. The video showed in graphic and horrid detail the practice of soring.
Soring is the cruel process of cutting the horse’s legs and applying a caustic chemical, causing the horse to raise its front legs into an exaggerated gait called the “Big Lick”. The horses live with pain, suffering and fear all their lives.
Soring is illegal by Federal law under the Horse Protection Act but is still common practice among many Walking Horse Trainers.
The Germantown Charity Horse Show has over 50 categories for Tennessee Walking Horses, mostly Big Lick, and has very little oversight to assure soring is not practiced.
THIS IS ABOUT MONEY, big prizes and big stud fees.
ALL BIG LICK, UNSOUND WALKING HORSES SHOULD BE ELIMINATED FROM THIS SHOW.
DON’T SUPPORT THE SHOW OR THE SPONSORS OF THE WALKING HORSE CATEGORIES.
This is NOT good for our community.
PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO (VERY GRAPHIC AND VIOLENT - NOT FOR CHILDREN)
