Since 2017, 1.8-3 million Uyghurs and other Turkic groups have been arbitrarily detained in internment camps by the Chinese government. Their crime: wearing too long of a beard, studying abroad, or having too many children. This is enough in the eyes of the Chinese government to be sentenced to an inhumane life in the camps, characterized by brainwashing, torture and rape.

I demand that the German Bundestag, recognizes the crimes against the Uyghurs in China as genocide!

Simultaneously with the massive expansion of a detention camp system, state-imposed IUDs, mass sterilizations and abortions increased seriously. In 2019 alone, the government planned to subject at least 80 percent of women of childbearing age in southern eastern Turkistan to sterilization or IUD insertion. The result - population growth rates in Uyghur-majority areas are increasingly approaching zero.

Uighur children are also targeted by the Chinese government. While their parents are locked away in forced labor camps or internment camps, their children are raised to be KPCH faithful in state-run orphanages.

My name is Gheyyur and I am Uigure. In 2006 I left my home country East Turkistan to study in Germany. Even then, we Uyghurs experienced severe discrimination in all aspects of political, social and economic life. However, none of us could foresee how dramatically the situation would escalate within a decade.

In sum, the human rights violations against the Uyghurs are equivalent to a genocide. This was the conclusion reached by the renowned Essex Court Chamber (London) in a legal opinion and a report by over 50 human rights experts. In addition, the first public hearing of the Uyghur Tribunal will take place from June 4-7 under the direction of the renowned human rights lawyer Sir Geoffrey Nice. However, it is not possible to take the Chinese government to the International Court of Justice in The Hague (ICJ) because the People's Republic of China has not ratified the ICJ Statute.

Therefore, it is important for national governments and parliaments to take a stand and name the actions of the Chinese government: genocide and crimes against humanity.

The parliaments in the Netherlands, Canada and Great Britain have already done so, as has the U.S. government.

Germany, too, must not shy away from a genocide debate in the face of the overwhelming burden of proof. Help us with this petition to persuade the German Bundestag to recognize the crimes against the Uyghurs as genocide. Sign the petition to make sure that the Chinese government is held accountable for its crimes against the Uyghurs and others!
