Establish a recycling program for thin plastics on Georgia Tech campus

The Issue

Thin plastics, such as shrink wrap and plastic bags are currently unable to be recycled on Georgia Tech campus through our current plastic recycling program. This petition is to request the addition of a thin plastics/plastic film recycling program on campus.

Plastic films and bags make up a large portion of the plastic waste generated on campus through administrative buildings receiving packages and parcels (shrink wrap), as well as through housing, where students amass large quantities of plastic grocery bags. The implementation of a plastic film recycling program is feasible, at relatively low cost to Georgia Tech and would divert a large stream of recyclable plastics from the landfill.
