End Breed Discrimination in Georgia and beyond!

The Issue

Breed discrimination laws, ordinances, and policies are unjust to both dogs and their owners. A dog should not be judged simply by its breed.

These policies affect a large group of dog breeds including Dobermans, Rottweilers, and mostly infamously bully breeds such as pitbulls and boxers. This list is not all inclusive. None of these dogs are inherently aggressive; they have been portrayed in various types of media as aggressive guard dogs and killers that are threats to the safety of communities. These dogs are victims of harmful stereotypes.
Every dog deserves a chance to have a loving home regardless of their breeds.

Pitbulls were originally referred to as “nanny dogs” because of their love and gentleness around children! These laws and ordinances lead to kind, loving dogs losing their homes and being euthanized.

The breed discriminatory policies of landlords, property management companies, and homeowners association limit owners of these breeds ability to find housing. This especially affects low income owners who already have limited housing options.

Instead of judging dogs by their breed, dogs should be assessed on a case by case basis. Landlords, property management companies, and HOAs need to have dog interviews conducted by qualified dog professionals to determine if they are aggressive or a safety threat.

Breed discrimination laws and ordinances should be outlawed, and any dog that is reported to be aggressive should be evaluated on a case by case basis by a dog behavioralist or other qualified professional who work with and understand dog behavior. Dog owners deserve to be able to more easily find housing regardless of their dog’s breed. The murder of and discrimination of innocent dogs based solely on stereotypes needs to end.
