BOP vs The Will of God: They shall not die...

While the nation seems to be bracing for a second wave of this novel coronavirus, inmates behind prison walls are still dealing with the first wave. Although my loved one and other inmates meet the requirements set forth in Attorney General William Barr’s memorandums, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) chooses to use that memo as guidance and make up their own requirements as to whom will be eligible for home confinement (HC). Home confinement and being granted compassionate release is two different things. The BOP makes the decision as to whom can be prioritize for consideration for home confinement, the inmate is still within the control of the prison just serving time at home; compassionate release due to covid19 is a request made to the warden for time reduction or time served due to the issues at hand, hence the pandemic. If denied by the warden, the inmate can make the request to the courts for disposition.

Although we stand on God’s promises knowing we are already victorious, we still have to go through the process! It seems the BOP is willing to gamble with these inmates lives by waiting to see if they will have severe illnesses of Covid-19 that some have already died from. There can be a number of reasons why that is so but serves as no excuse to be negligent with these inmates lives. The inhumane practices BOP has taken regarding the lives of these inmates concerning Covid-19 shows clearly that they’re more concern to uphold the law of a system we know is broken than preserving these inmates lives through furlough or an efficient process of transferring non-violent first time offenders to home confinement. I will not stop fighting for the safety of these inmates especially my husband who is incarcerated at this facility. They have not done mass testing at this camp so the real dangers are unknown. 

Concerning the fight for my family, we have been denied consideration for home confinement although he has pre-existing conditions and is a first time non-violent offender, but God.... Also, we have made a request for compassionate release due to these circumstances and await the decision from that pending motion going before the courts in a few weeks.
