The Issue

This week in Paulding County, Georgia, a 3-year-old child got access to a loaded gun in the early morning hours—and accidentally shot and killed a 19-year-old visitor as he slept.

His name was Kabrel Patterson.

The gun had been brought into the home and left unsecured. No one meant for it to happen—but it did. And it will keep happening, unless we take real action.

Georgia does not currently require gun owners to safely store firearms in homes with children.

That means loaded guns can be left within reach of toddlers—and it’s perfectly legal. In a home with 10 people that night, one single unsecured weapon led to a death that never should have happened.

This isn’t about politics. It’s about preventing tragedy.

We are calling on the Georgia General Assembly to immediately pass a statewide Safe Gun Storage law that requires all firearms in homes with minors to be locked, unloaded, and out of reach.

This is a basic, common-sense step that other states have already taken. Gun owners can still exercise their rights—but safely, and responsibly.

One child, one family, and one grieving community is already too many.

Sign this petition to demand action before another preventable death devastates another Georgia home.
