Stop King America Finishing Pollution in the Ogeechee River
Thanks to everyone for signing the petition! We surpassed our goal of 500 people in just over a week. There's still time to help stop the pollution from King America Finishing. Visit www.greenlaw.org/ogeecheefishkill to learn more and to donate to help today.
King America Finishing has been illegally discharging pollution from its flame retardant line to the Ogeechee River for over 5 years. In May 2011, the river became so stressed that over 33,000 fish died along an 85 mile stretch of the river downstream from the industrial polluter. Now, a year later, more fish are dying and the river is closed to fishing and swimming in areas downstream of King America Finishing.
The Georgia Environmental Protection Division proposes to approve a permit that will allow too much pollution from King America Finishing into the Ogeechee River. This permit allows unsafe levels of ammonia, formaldehyde and other toxic chemicals into a once pristine river system.
- Georgia Environmental Protection Division
I am opposed to the issuance of the King America Finishing draft pollution permit to the Ogeechee River.
The draft permit will allow too much pollution from King America Finishing into the Ogeechee River. This permit allows unsafe levels of ammonia, formaldehyde and other toxic chemicals into a once pristine river system.
The Georgia Environmental Protection Division should protect Georgia's waterways and hold polluters accountable.
