Georgetown must be hearing all 500+ of us! See President DeGioia’s panicked response to the Class of 2021 below. Keep sharing in alumni and student circles and demand a socially distanced in-person graduation. Enough is enough Georgetown.

“Dear Members of the Senior Class:

I write to share with you my appreciation and gratitude for all of your hard work this past year, as you have worked to achieve this significant milestone in your academic journey—your Commencement.

You have helped to support one another since the pandemic emerged last year, first, as juniors and now, as members of the senior class. Reaching this moment is an extraordinary accomplishment, one that is made that much more meaningful because of how you have responded to the pandemic and the urgent public health needs of our global community.

I know that this is not the kind of commencement that you imagined when you first arrived at Georgetown. I share your disappointment in not being able to gather in person alongside family and friends for your commencement.

As I shared in my message earlier today, we are committed to working with you—the Class of 2021—to plan an opportunity for you to return as a class in 2022. While we do not yet know what this return will include, we hope it will provide moments of reflection and celebration for you, your classmates, and your families. We look forward to working with you on developing this future gathering.

As we enter these remaining weeks of the spring semester, I wish to offer you my most sincere gratitude and congratulations. We look forward to celebrating you on May 23 and to welcoming you back to the Hilltop together in the future.

Sincerely,

John J. DeGioia”
