Free our dogs!!! Leash-free parks for the Penshurst Dog Community
Hi All,
The Penshurst Dog Owner's Community have united against the unfair treatment of the lack of appropriate dog off-leash parks within the Penshurst locality and its regional surrounds. Currently, other LGAs such as Inner West Council have more than 40 dog friendly parks within a much smaller area; Penshurst has none. Many residents including the elderly are forced to travel to further areas to undertake much needed social and physical exercises of their dogs.
Furthermore, the existing dog off-leash parks within the Georges River LGA is inadequate, unsafe and too far for many residents to travel on a daily basis. The nearest dog friendly park is Arrowsmith Park located on the corner of the busy King Georges Road Woniora Road in Hurstville. This park is unfenced, under lit and unsafe (actually dangerous) for community use on a regular basis; you can only imagine the kind of catastrophe should this park be used regularly as a dog off-leash park adjacent to two busy roadways! No wonder Arrowsmith Park is deserted most of the time... Not a prime real estate obviously!
We are petitioning for Gifford Park in Penshurst to be granted a dog friendly status for the benefit of the greater GRC Community!
Gifford Park is located within the heart of the Penshurst Community surrounded by quite residential streets. The park already has good lighting, fencing and waste collection facilities. Gifford Park is currently underutilised by the public, apart from being leased to a private soccer training organisation by the council. The park is chosen due to its locality and potential to benefit the local community through alignment with the Strategic Goals identified in the Georges River Council Community Strategic Plan.
If you care about the welfare of people and their beloved pets, then please help us by signing our Petition to Council for a dog friendly Gifford Park! We currently have great community support and wish to gain further momentum with council to push this proposal through.
We have united as one from all walks of life, prepared to stand together, and fight until the end for the greater benefit of the current and future generations of Penshurst and the wider community!
Kind Regards,
Gifford Park Dogs (GPD)
