Freedom 4 Freshmen - Choice of Meal Plan

The Issue

My goal here is for freshmen to be able to choose their meal plan for the upcoming semester and so on.

If you weren't aware freshmen at George Mason University were forced into "anytime dining." In theory eating unlimited amounts of food at anytime sounds awesome, but you should know this meal plan is most definitely not awesome. There's only three places we can eat on this meal plan without using bonus funds even though we were promised four. Ike's, located in President's Park about 9 minutes from the Commons and closed on Saturdays. Southside, located a 5 minute walk away from the Johnson Center, and 9 minutes from President’t Park, is open all the time. While Southside is open 24/7 many of the food stations are not, in fact the sandwich bar is hardly ever open. Lastly The Globe located about 20+ minutes from Presidents Park, and 15 minutes from The Commons, intended for international students but still included on our meal plan. When we originaly had paid for this meal plan we were promised Ike's would be open all the time, and that we would be able to use our unlimited swipes at Pilot House - both these privilages were taken away. So if us students live in either of those areas and want a late night snack, or even food on Saturday, we have to walk all the way to Southside. If I have a 10 minute break between class I'm not going to have time to walk all the way to Southside or Ike's so I pay for food in Johnson Center using bonus or personal funds. I might be speaking for myself here but bonus funds go VERY quickly. Students frequently complain about having not options other than Southside, Ike's, or The Globe. Another big issue freshmen are having is that we can only take 1 item of fruit or an ice cream out of the dining halls, this issue is especially important inbetween closely scheduled classes. I have a friend who is not able to eat gluten, fruit, vegetables, or meat and she was still forced into the meal plan. All I’m asking is for freshmen to be able to pick their meal plan for the Spring 2015 semester and so on. I love George Mason but this is something that heavily influences my decision to stay here.
