Save the Murals!

Save the Murals!
The Issue
Let us keep our art!
Over the past two weeks, beautiful graffiti art has been popping up on the blank white walls under viaducts all over McKinley Park and Brighton Park. Recently, however, the Department of Streets and Sanitation has begun whitewashing over our new murals---many of them have already disappeared. (If you'd like to what they looked like, or add pictures of your own, find our Facebook group, A Gallery of 12th Ward Graffiti Art).
We want this art preserved! Alderman Cardenas, it's you.r job to speak up for the 12th Ward's community priorities, and we think we deserve beauty. We think the talented folks who worked so hard on the murals deserve to see them stay. We want you to help us build and maintain the community we want--one that's creative and constructive, not subject to senseless destruction by the city.
We demand that Cardenas commit to working with local youth get funding for future projects, and we want him to stand up for art, artists, and community! Save the murals!
-12th Ward IPO
Special note: We've started a GoFundMe to bring back our art on walls where we know it can be preserved. If you'd like to contribute art supply money, see https://www.gofundme.com/f/32m9b-community-mural-project
