Randwick Council: It is time to ensure a designated beach area/s for Dogs and their Carers to legally enjoy within the Randwick City Council Vicinity

The issue

Out of 10+ waterways within the Randwick City Council area there is not one beach that you are legally permitted to take a dog to for a swim or a walk at any time, even though Randwick City has “nine beaches, seven ocean pool and thirteen coastal reserves” (Randwick City Council, Beaches & Coast).

We pay our rates, as do other users of the beach who take their children, but we are not permitted to take all of our family members for a stroll or a swim at the beach or else we are threatened with a hefty council fine.

Randwick Council states on their site that  “However, ownership of a dog or cat comes with certain responsibilities, to ensure the safety of our community, environmental amenity and protection of native wildlife. That's why pets are not allowed on the beach or bush reserves."  Personally, I am of the opinion that RCC believes that dog owners are not responsible!  Perhaps they could speak with Pittwater Council that has at least 9 waterways available to their pet owners.

A waterway for our dogs would be beneficial for social interaction, exercise (tiring our dogs so less barking), rehabilitation from injury to name a few.

Please support this petition not only for our furry friends and their responsibile owners but also because this law is unjust and needs to be amended.

Great idea a much needed request for dogs and dog owners, Cr Stevenson has my total support. Bravo. Cr Stevenson! As a dog owner I use the dog park at Coogee and can see at first hand the benefits of a park that allows dogs to run freely and play with other dogs. In Randwick City we boast that we have a "Sense of community" and it's a great place to live, work and play. What about our dogs shouldn't they be given the same opportunity to live, work and play in some of the beautiful parks and on some of the designated beaches in Randwick City freely without a leash? “He prayeth best, who loveth best All things both great and small; For the dear God who loveth us, He made and loveth all.” ― Samuel Taylor Coleridge, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
