As college students continue to graduate with increasing amounts of debt, GM has decided to use their own available funding to target such graduates with a new discount program. The GM College Program is designed specifically to take advantage of college students and their credit scores in order for them to buy a new automobile. Such lack of corporate social responsibility is representative of why this program should come to an end. GM’s “Stop pedaling…start driving” marketing campaign actually displays an image of an embarrassed male biker hiding his face from the humiliation of being seen by a nearby woman riding in a car. It’s easy to manipulate, but honest to educate; please let GM know that their efforts need to be guided away from such manipulation techniques, such as their College Program, and redirected to socially and environmentally conscientious initiatives.
