Alternative PLAB 2 Pathways For GMC Registration
Alternative PLAB 2 Pathways For GMC Registration
We, the candidates affected by the suspension of the PLAB 2 exam, petition the GMC to give an exemption. As PLAB 2 exams have been canceled since mid- March due to COVID-19, many International Medical Graduates who have passed PLAB 1, are left without the opportunity to attain GMC registration. This will likely lead to a further shortage of physicians in the NHS. We are asking if the GMC will consider accepting the successful completion of a secure, standardized clinical skills exam in English, in the place of PLAB 2. These exams include:
- The United States Medical Licensing Exam: USMLE- Step 2 CS- Clinical Skills
- Australian Medical Council: Clinical Examination Part 2
- Medical Council of Canada: Qualifying Examination Part 2, National Assessment Collaboration Examination
- Medical Council of New Zealand: NZREX Clinical
- Medical Council of Ireland: Pre-Registration Examination System (PRES), Level 3
This year has been a public health crisis and the advancement of young doctors is essential for meeting health care needs.
