Gelson’s, please stop killing wildlife with rat poison!

Gelson’s, please stop killing wildlife with rat poison!
The Issue
Though the state of California has banned certain types of extremely lethal poisons most commonly used as rodenticides, non-targeted wildlife such as raptors, foxes, mountain lions and bobcats continue to fall victim to rodenticides by ingesting rats and mice that have been poisoned.
With over 25 locations throughout Southern California, Gelson’s is a recognised regional brand with a strong commitment to the communities it serves. Several of their locations border on urban wildlife havens, such as the Los Angeles River and Griffith Park, home to majestic Great Horned Owls, Red Tailed Hawks, Mountain Lions and Bobcats, to mention only a few.
We are asking Gelson’s Market and their CEO Rob McDougall to please stop using rat poison at all of their locations, to find better, environmentally friendly solutions

and to be a community leader in taking responsible strides to protect our local wildlife.
In the past several weeks alone, THREE separate instances of Great Horned Owls found suffering agonising deaths within blocks of the Franklin Village Gelson’s were reported. Autopsies confirmed all three owls died from ingesting rat poison.
These poisons cause horrendous deaths to not only the intended targets of mice and rats but also local wildlife. Additionally, these toxins enter our local ecosystems through soil and water contamination, putting our beloved cats, dogs, children—ALL of us—at risk.
Please add your signature to help us encourage Gelson’s Market to take the lead in creating a safe, non-toxic environment by eliminating the use of rat poison at all of their locations.
