Save the Historic Home at 112 East Park St., Chardon Ohio!
The Issue
As many of you know, the Eging family lived at 112 East Park Street next to the library for decades prior to 1982 (remember old Eging Realty). Since then, the house was a variety of things from Chamber of Commerce to various small businesses. The house itself is the oldest remaining structure on the Square, built in 1836. It is fast approaching it's 200th birthday!
This house served as host of the County Recorder at the time of the Main Street fire that devastated the Square. It continued this role until the new Courthouse was built. This historic home was involved in the early development of Geauga County and continued to be part for that most of it's life.
Anne Eging purchased this home during WWII from the home's first owner. Ann was known around town as the Real Estate Lady. She became the first woman President of The Geauga Board of Realtors in 1956. Walking in a man's world, she was respected by all.
Her son, Cliff Eging, served in WWII as an Army Engineer. He was awarded the Silver Star for actions during the Battle of the Rhineland. He lived in this home after the War and began serving the Geauga County community through his real estate work, helping young families get their start in the County.
The home is significant to Chardon's history and soon will be gone, used for Fire Department practice then torn down. After this, most of the historic structures surrounding that side of the square will be gone (many old homes have already been torn down).
Our children will never be able to see these earliest homes that once surrounded the lovely town square as this is the oldest remaining exampled left. Once it is gone, it cannot be replaced!
Please save this historic home. Demolishing this historic home is stripping our children of their heritage. It should be preserved for the next 200 years!
Thank You.
