Gaza is running out of insulin! Evacuate 10yo diabetic Talin!
The Issue
UPDATE Sept 18th, 2024
Thanks to the visibility of this petition & social media posts about it, Children Not Numbers contacted me, and I was able to put them in touch with Talin's family. Dr. Sharif with Children Not Numbers spoke to Talin's parents and provided them with medical guidance. Talin's parents have insulin vials now, which are expired, but Dr. Sharif assured them they will be effective. Children not Numbers has added Talin's family to their list for future dispersal of insulin pens, a glucometer, and food distributions. Because this campaign also raised $7,000 for Talin's fundraiser, her food security should be okay, for a while.
After speaking with Dr. Sharif, I've made some edits to the language of the petition to reflect the reality for diabetics in Gaza more accurately. There is a critical shortage of insulin, which is almost all expired, but there is still some available, and Children Not Numbers is one of the organizations ensuring that insulin reaches people who need it. I urge all of you to support their great work!

Petition:
Talin Abu Shamala is a 10 year old girl with Type 1 Diabetes living in Khan Younis, Gaza, whose family is requesting medical evacuation. Thanks to the heroic care of her parents, Talin has survived for the past two years, despite enduring famine and an inconsistent supply of unrefrigerated, expired insulin. Her parents often have had no way to test her blood sugar or know the potency of the insulin they have given her.
Now, Gaza’s stores of insulin are running out.
Due to a lack of treatment, diabetes in Gaza has become a dangerous diagnosis.
We, the undersigned, are calling on aid organizations enabling medical evacuations of children out of Gaza to urgently facilitate Talin’s evacuation, namely the World Health Organization, HEAL Palestine, the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, ANERA, Gaza Kinder Relief, Children Not Numbers, Save the Children, and Project Pure Hope, and all others.
We are calling on every diabetes organization worldwide to tell Talin’s story, support her evacuation, and pressure Israel to allow humanitarian aid, including insulin and test strips, into Gaza, namely the International Diabetes Federation, the World Diabetes Foundation, the American Diabetes Association, Breakthrough T1D, Diabetes UK, Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists, Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation, and others.
And we are calling on every influencer and public figure who has helped facilitate children’s medical evacuations to help Talin as you have helped others, and join us in calling for her evacuation!
