Get Rid of Midyears at Boston Latin Academy
Kids are stressing over grades during a health crisis. Every year students’ anxiety is heightened during exam season and this year that is worsened by the growing Covid numbers. Many students have to stay home, isolated, and miss precious learning that is essential to passing their exams. Students who are still in school are worried about getting sick and bringing it to their families. Most kids aren't willing to talk about these worries because they don't want to jeopardize their education. They will avoid Covid tests and other necessary precautions that slow the spread. Students should never be expected or feel it is necessary to put academics over their and their families' health. The pressure that comes on kids taking these exams studying as much as they can is unfair, especially during a pandemic that is peaking. To respect our students and their health, we need to cancel midyears. Teachers have also agreed that mid years is unnecessary during this time.
