In the morning yesterday when I read governors were getting together to talk about a plan to re-open the economy, I was so excited.  It thought perhaps that would starting lifting the nonimpactful restrictions and start making a plan to efficiently procure high quality masks for the most exposed nonmedical workers....but no.  There is no plan other than to keep doing what we're doing, and even worse, Governor Newsome has given us a foreboding warning that some of our basic human interactions may never be allowed again.

What purpose does it serve to ban people from driving outside, if they never leave their car?  Come on.  What risk is posed by small outdoor work crews, particularly if they are using masks?  PG&E and governments seem to be working outside with no masks - why is ok for them and not for privately paid outdoor workers?  Why is our government making arbitrary choices for essential vs nonessential products and services, when the COVID-19 virus doesn't care or perceive these differences?  The COVID-19 virus only spreads when it can reach a host, so let's manage its transmission with exposure risk and PPE criteria.  

PLEASE SHARE THIS PETITION WIDELY to anyone you know who might agree that California Governor Newsom needs to stop COVID-19 spread at its source, using science, not fear, to guide public policy.  

Many of us know we likely won't win against COVID-19, and we want to stay safe.  And using exposure risk and PPE criteria is not a stand-alone solution, but can we please include it, and address the clumsy, nonsensical aspects of the initial shelter-in-place order??  We are headed for some catastrophic effects on our poorest residents if we don't act now where we can.
