Audio recording of John’s plea for help

Governor Gavin C. Newsom and community,

My brother, John Huh turned 18, just before these non-violent crimes were committed, thus far he has served 23 years in living hell. John is not proud of what he did and neither is our family.

Without any sense of direction and not being aware of the danger to himself and our family, John found himself trapped over his head, in a world of no return, at a vulnerable, confused state of mind. Growing up, our single mother was busy trying to support both me and my brother with multiple jobs. With an absent father figure and a busy, working mother, John did not have a true mentor to distinguish right and wrong decisions. My brother had no criminal records and had only his first offense when the Los Angeles superior court Judge Moony gave him a maximum prison sentence of 28 years for a nonviolent crime. John faced long imprisonment therefrom he has been thrust into prison immediately. While in prison, John has been living in total hell because of an incident that led to two officers being dismissed from the facility, after that John was stabbed in the neck by an inmate. Continuously, John was hunted by correctional officers and ISU’s, making sure that he would not be released. They constantly beat my brother and started conflicts with him, thus ultimately planning to kill John and claim it as suicide. Since then, John has been in grave danger, struggling to survive in the hole and infirmary.

John‘s medical conditions are as follows:

1.  John was diagnosed with Hepatitis C Stage 2 from sharing a tattoo needle and was unable to be given proper treatment until he reached Stage 4 due to the costly expenses, where John had to wait for stage 4 for treatment it is noted his body began to shut down.

2.  John Suffers from weak Kidneys, High Blood Pressure and Stage 4 Fibrosis, he was finally able to get his treatment, although his liver is still weak due to the Hepatitis infection.

3.  It is to be noted John wasn't sentenced to a life sentence and if exposed to COVID-19 or the Corona Virus, John could die.

Governor Gavin Newsom and community, since being incarcerated John has met all of his rehabilitation program requirements, as well as gotten married. At the time of marriage, his stepson was 7 years of age. John took him up under his wings, mentoring and guiding him in the right directions so he doesn’t go through what he did. John also decided to make positive changes in his own life by obtaining his High School Diploma, where he graduated with honors. Shortly after he got his GE in Biblical Studies and finished with a degree in Psychology, where his motivation is to help others, that undergoes the same mental illness he suffered from at a young age. John raised his stepson, who is now 16, with his wife, as a father figure being a positive role model, with love and discipline from behind prison walls, teaching him to have a strong mentality and how to make the right decisions in life. The relationship with John's stepson is very strong because of his dedication through communication via; letters, phone calls, and visits. John’s stepson is a high school student whose proud to call him dad, despite John being in prison, living his life with good grades, great social skills, and a great athlete.

Below this message, a voice recording of John will be attached. There, he will explain what he has been going through within the past two weeks. To clarify, these are the officers and ISU’s that were involved: Officer Portee, Officer Kennedy, Officer Perelpa, Officer Ramos.

If given the chance to right his wrongs, John has a great support system and Pastor Suk Ki Kim of Onesimus Ministry, Family, Friends, and the Community will be mentoring and monitoring John to make his transition from prison to home a success.

We implore you as Governor and community, to help release my brother, John Huh, forthwith due to his health and prison conviction in violation of the First, Fifth, Sixth, and Eighth Amendments, where the Bible Isaiah 61- Verse1 the laws and statues drafted enacted and enforced calls for John Huh's release. We so pray!
