Gov. Newsom: Please Release Emon Barnes Immediately!

Gov. Newsom: Please Release Emon Barnes Immediately!
GOV. NEWSOM: PLEASE FREE EMON BARNES NOW!!!! Loyola Project for the Innocent’s client, Emon Barnes, is innocent. He was wrongfully convicted when he was only 15 years old and sentenced to 40 years to life for a crime he did not commit. While his legal team fights his conviction, Emon sits in a cell, incarcerated at San Quentin, where he has now contracted COVID-19. Because Emon suffers from Sickle Cell Disease, which is an inherited red blood cell disorder in which there aren't enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout your body, he is at extreme risk of not recovering from Covid-19. According to the CDC, respiratory viruses, like COVID-19, have proven to be more problematic for Sickle Cell patients, which have resulted in higher hospitalization rates, greater need for ventilation, and acute chest syndrome. Right now, Emon sits alone, locked up in his cell with severe fatigue. He is scared, and he needs to be released so he can have access to proper medical care ASAP! We are asking Governor Newsom to grant clemency and commute Emon’s sentence so he can be released as soon as possible, in order to save his life.
