DHBC accept WREB clinical exam modification to OSCE
DHBC accept WREB clinical exam modification to OSCE
The Issue
On May 29, 2020: DHBC held a meeting and had the opportunity to discuss and possibly act on temporarily modifying the WREB clinical exam into a written format. The modification does not require treating live patients, which ensures everyone’s safety: the students, examiners, and especially the patients. However, the DHBC voted to postpone making a decision in regards to this matter until July 24, 2020. Regardless of hearing the pleas of countless students and members of the public, they did not change their mind.
The WREB clinical exam places everyone’s health at risk. To ask members of the public to be our patients and jeopardize their health is unethical, especially with a pandemic currently happening. To ask them to sit in a dental chair for hours and be exposed to multiple persons during the process is selfish. The fear and risk of transmitting and contracting COVID-19 would be removed through the modification of the WREB clinical exam into a written format. We do not want to risk our health and the public’s health by taking the WREB clinical exam. We are asking DHBC to change their decision about the WREB clinical exam and accept the modification.
