Objective:

Change clinical hours from 50% in person care to an 100% online platform during COVID-19.

Situation:

The board of registered nursing has reduced our direct patient care hours required each term from 75% to 50%. However, the California board of nursing has failed to identify how we can volunteer to do direct patient care hours since our clinical sites are not accepting students and many places are not accepting volunteers in the current state of COVID-19. If we fail to complete these hours we then receive an incomplete in the class and have 50 days to earn hours. If we again cannot find hours then we fail the course. These failures will prevent nurses from graduating and therefore decrease the number of nurses entering the workforce in this time of crisis.

Action:

Nursing students are in an impossible position right now and we need to change the clinical hours to complete virtual hours until we get our clinical sites back. Please advocate for nursing students and sign this petition in order for more people to learn about this situation. 

To Governor Newsom and the BRN:

The first executive order from 75% to 50% direct patient care hours addressed nursing students closer to graduation, however the rest of the nursing students were left behind. Please let nursing students complete clinicals through an online platform until clinical sites allow students back.
