Ban Wet Markets in California

Ban Wet Markets in California

The Issue

A wet market is a market place that sells fresh meat and other produce. However, the conditions of many wet markets are inhumane, unsanitary, and are a hotbed for diseases.

Wet markets carry live animals that are slaughtered on the spot. Animals often live in small cages stacked on each other. Because this environment causes the animals chronic stress, their immune systems are weakened, and they are at risk of diseases that could potentially spread to other animals and humans.

There are around 80 wet markets located in New York, and there are several located in California. Wet markets must be banned in the State of California. Please sign this petition to urge Governor Gavin Newsom to ban wet markets in California.
