Directly quoted from a student on Piazza: "This is an issue of student's mental health. I am deeply disappointed in the entire UCD system... the last minute announcement of mandatory online finals only adds more stress to the situation. Final exams should be a fair representation of student's ability to show their strengths on the course, and they can be stressful as it is. Now, adding the added stress of media uncertainty concerning the COVID-19, the uncertainty of final grades, the last minute changes going from paper and pencil in a classroom setting to a virtual online, irregular format, where we have all experienced difficulties, is simply wrong. Having a final during these times of great stress DOES NOT ACCURATELY SHOW STUDENT KNOWLEDGE. As professors and faculty, they should ask themselves if they would be able to focus on various exams while the US is in a state of emergency. Which is why finals right now should only be optional, not mandatory at this point. If any professor is able to focus on doing physics, or any subject, spend hours studying effectively and still be able to take an exam, then please feel free to join us as well."
