NO Special Session in Utah for Tax Reform

The Issue

Utah is proposing brand new taxes that practically no one knows about!  Taxes on all your services --  haircuts, ride share, tutoring, plumbing repairs, and even veterinary care -- they want it all.  Taxes that failed in every other state!  Plus, added food taxes, gas taxes, and credits we’re not sure will work.  Brand new proposals that Utah has never tried.  There are some who say they have studied the topic.  But, that’s not a full debate! Besides, the largest tax overhaul in Utah’s history should not be done in just one day and fast-tracked without full debate.  What is this – swampy Washington DC politics?

The Governor is planning to call a special session this year.  With only 44 working days until the regular session begins, why can’t we take this 200-page bill through the full process?  Is it because it’s the holidays and no one’s looking?  This is NOT how we do business in Utah.

–  PLEASE SIGN TO SAY NO SPECIAL SESSION

If this 200-page bill is such a good idea, it will survive full debate during the Legislative Session starting in January.

The middle class is supposed to benefit, but did you know that Utah’s government first plans to take more money from you -- before giving some back.  Is that a tax cut?  We’re still not sure how this major overhaul will affect education, transportation, Utah jobs and other critical Utah needs.  Will Utah’s businesses continue to thrive or even stay in in the state?  Many of us have real concerns and unanswered questions.  So, let’s slow down.

Tell Governor Herbert and Republican Legislative Leadership:

NO SPECIAL SESSION IN 2019
