Trans Rights are Human Rights

Trans Rights are Human Rights

The Issue

There is a deeply troubling trend of people starting groups and initiatives to oppose transgender individuals. These movements are as dangerous as any other type of cultural or ethnic cleansing - they want a group of legally protected people to cease to exist.

Garden Court Chambers advertises themselves as the “Number one ranked” human rights legal service in the UK. However, an employee of theirs recently publicly announced their role in starting a group of “LBG” people who oppose the existence of trans people. The firm has not commented on this or taken any action against this employee.

We need to hold companies and individuals accountable for actions that oppose human rights. All people should be entitled to live their lives free of persecution and threats. Additionally, the overwhelming majority of scientific studies supports the fact that transgender people are not choosing to make a statement or any political movement - we are born as we are and are simply trying to live our most comfortable lives. Anti-trans groups, movements, and laws are the main contributing factor to the high rate of suicide attempts and other mental health issues that face transgender people, and, especially, transgender youth.

Their employee, Allison Bailey, is @BluskyeAllison on Twitter, where she described her role in starting an organisation that opposes the existence of transgender individuals. The organisation is called LGB Alliance, and they are @AllianceLGB on Twitter.

Her tweet supporting this hate group has been followed by further messages including her opposition to Stonewall, as well as her calling AMAB trans people rapists. I won’t post a link to those tweets here, but if you want to read her statements, you can visit her twitter page.

Taking a stand against those who would eliminate a whole group of people begins here and now. Let’s make sure the most powerful human rights law firm in this country doesn’t employ people who would see us eliminated from society and from life.
