A petition for the arrest and investigation of Maria Bailey for attempted insurance fraud.
The Issue
Insurance costs and the actions of the legal industry in Ireland in actively encouraging insurance fraud, have become a scourge upon Irish society. The cost of Insurance fraud is being carried by Irish citizens through substantially higher prices for goods and services as small business owners are often tormented by fraudulent litigants who are encouraged into taking a spurious legal action by their solicitor, but in addition to that, business closure is increasingly seen as the outcome for small business owners who are targeted by a fraudulent claim by a ligitant and their solicitor.
We request the arrest and investigation of Maria Bailey TD, who has filed and withdrawn a spurious claim and has admitted to presenting an incorrect affit davit to the Dublin Circuit Court. Her media statements that she only sought the reimbursement of her medical costs (approx €7,000), is completely at variance with the fact that she instructed her legal team to prepare and present a legal action before the Dublin Circuit Court, for compensation of €60,000.
It is unacceptable that a member of government who has influence over legislation and government policy in this area, can expect to pursue a claim that is clearly fraudulent in nature and that because of her position, that she appears to believe that she is completely untouchable in terms of the application of criminal law insofar as attempted insurance fraud is concerned.
