A huge THANK YOU to all of you for supporting this effort to protect 'The Quiet Man' cottage from further ruin.
Despite the misinformation that continues to be posted on the internet, this petition was SUCCESSFUL.
As most of you probably know by now, the elected members of Galway County Council voted 'yes' to add the cottage and its curtilage to the Record of Protected Structures (RPS).
Following that 'yes' vote, council officers have confirmed that the addition of 'The Quiet Man' cottage to the RPS is currently being processed under Section 55 of architectural heritage procedures.
The required public notifications under those Section 55 procedures will be issued in late April. Once this happens 'The Quiet Man' cottage will have full legislative protection pending a second vote by the elected members of Galway County Council to fully incorporate this iconic jewel in Connemara's tourism crown onto the RPS.
Unfortunately, some people seem to be, shall I say, ‘misinformed’ regarding the legislation in relation to ‘Protected Structures’.
Just to correct the misinformation that they repeatedly post on the internet: here is a simple FACT– under the law…
WHEN the cottage becomes protected – it does NOT mean that it has to be permanently preserved as ruin (unless the owner takes no action to restore/maintain it that is).
If the owner, finally, comes up with a restoration plan (which is his own publicly stated wish) the cottage can also be REMOVED from the Record of Protected Structures – to facilitate a full and authentic restoration.
Anyone who says anything different is either grossly misinformed or deliberately manipulating the facts/intentionally misleading people.
And finally, are you a 'friend' of The Quiet Man cottage on Facebook yet? Please pop over to show your further support for Sean and Mary Kate's 'wee humble cottage' by 'liking' - and following – our Facebook page over at: www.facebook.com/weehumblecottage
Thank you all once again for your greatly valued support – you are all Homeric, that's what you are - HOMERIC!!!
Le meas,
