We, the Indigenous people, and the supporters of this petition are in full support of the removal of the name "Dawes" from the Dawes House at Gallaudet University. By removing the name "Dawes,"  Gallaudet University would exhibit respect for our ancestors who were traumatized through their experience during the Indian Removal Act, Dawes Act and Dawes Commission.  We respectfully request that the surname Dawes, which U.S. Senator Henry L. Dawes was named after, to be retired to Gallaudet Archives and Museum for the purpose of historical preservation.
