A lovely dog park opened up in Gainsborough Greens earlier last year. I have two small dogs and took them to the park so they can meet other dogs and have a good time and wanted them to also play with dogs their own size. 

The entire time I was there along with other small dog owners I was on edge, as many larger dogs goto this park that sometimes not friendly and are aggressive. This is a very large dog park and it has the space to be split.

(Edited for clarification: I didn’t want this petition to be about when myself and partner were abused when we brought our dogs to the park or when our dogs were attacked at. Or about big dogs vs small dogs. I want this to be a park the whole community can enjoy)

In July 2019 I emailed the Gold Coast council about the issue and that the park should be for all dog owners and their dogs - they came back with a reply of ...’all dogs should socialise with one another’ line.

Now any dog owner would know this is not the case no matter how well their dog or the other dog is socialised, not every dog gets along with each other. 

Many other parks on the Gold Coast, wider Brisbane area, interstate and overseas have adopted the approach of a split fence system. I have been to such a parks and my dogs get to play with dogs their own size and I am not worried about my dogs. 

Lately hearing about attacks becoming more common at this park and many other dog owners with small dogs not being able to go, something needs to be done.
