Hello all. For the last 6 days, a 12-year-old Siberian Husky by the name of Alfred had been roaming the west side of Gahanna. On Saturday, 05Feb2022, he got away from his owner(s). He was caught and given back to said owner(s), who then let him go intentionally as soon as he was returned. They went so far as to put cinder blocks in his outside doghouse to prevent him from returning. This entire community has come together, putting in hours of effort and care into finding this senior dog. Thankfully, strangers amongst the community were able to catch him as of 19:03 on 11Feb2022. He has injuries to his paws, and it seems as though his collar is embedded in his neck. We were finally able to get Gahanna Police Department to visit the owner(s) on allegations of animal abuse and neglect. They are not being charged on the grounds that they “surrendered” the dog. It is against local ordinance to abandon a pet, and you cannot surrender a dog that is not in your possession. They made no effort to find him, or help in any way, despite claims that they made a “rescue effort.” This is a very well known dog to this community, as most of us has seen him (and his recently passed companion) always outside at least the last decade. We would like to see the owner(s) brought to justice for such blatant cruel abuse and neglect. Alfred deserves so much better than any of this.
