We the undersigned respectfully request, prior to the passage and implementation of any HATE CRIME LEGISLATION the Georgia Legislature have in person input from human rights, civil rights, the American Civil Liberties Union (if desired) and concerned citizens as to the completenessof the legislation and inclusion of potential hate crime victims.

Currently, there is pending legislation to create a hate crimes statute in the State of Georggia.  There exists great concern that any proposed Hate Crime legislation in the State of Georgia may exclude certain offenses and groups of injured parties from it.  That this legislation may prevent these excluded offenses from becoming law or some citizens from obtaining justice if they become victims of hate activities.  Therefore there must be a thorough examination of any and all pending Hate Crime legislation to insure all citizens and potential hate crimes acts are included in any legislation designed to combat hate crimes.  It is requested prior to the passage of any Hate Crime legislation, the Legislature hold hearings and allow for review and comments from civil and human rights organizations, the American Civil Liberties Union and interested citizens.
