Last night millions of us watched as what began as yet another peaceful protest over the questionable shooting death of a Black American by police officer's in America's 17th largest city Charlotte, N.C. devolved into violence and civil disobedience. Protesters occupied downtown Charlotte for hours shutting down their Inter State Highway through downtown and facing off against Police roit lines. Manuel a young Latino American stood face to face with a Line of Riot gear police for hours after protesters starting throwing stuff at the cops and after the police started filling the streets with Tear Gas and Pepper Spray Balls. Manuel look us all in face and told us he would not budge from that spot that he would stand his ground to the point of arrest to demand an end to questionable deaths at police hands. He kept his word I watched as him and 2 others were surrounded by Charlotte PD and arrested live on MSNBC last night. We are now 4 days from the 1st Presidential debate. The two 3rd party candidate's are taking two different approachs to this debate. Governor Johnson appears content to accept the ruling of the Commission on Presidential Debates with the hopes that he will be invited to the 2nd or 3rd debate. Dr. Jill Stein along with her running mate Ajamu Baraka and hundreds of Green Party members and supporters are headed to Hofstra to protest and escort Jill through the Secret Service security to the debate stage. If you live in New York and want to help escort Dr. Stein go here https://m.facebook.com/events/884605358337610 Getting Jill on the debate stage and protesting loudly if they arrest her again is not about Dr. Stein or even you or me. It's about Manuel and his right to hear about our policy of universal FBI/DoJ investigations of police involved deaths, it's about his right to know that we think he should have the opportunity to serve on Charlotte's first Civilian Police Review Board, and it's about starting the conversation about a National Truth and Reconciliation board so that we can start having a productive conversation about racism in our Laws, Policies, and Hearts from the Federal Level to our Cities.
