Kagehina is the most famous ship from “Haikyu!!”, a manga and anime from the creator, Furudate. Although the manga has ended, the anime is still running and has multiple seasons left before ending along with the manga, meaning there is still time for the ship to become canon. In other shows, popular ships have become canon even when they were not originally written that way because of the public’s love for it, so why can’t this be the same situation? Small things that did not occur in the manga did appear in the anime so far, so we know it is possible. If Furudate worries about the effects the ship becoming canon may have on the storyline, there are other ways to do this without changing anything in the anime nor manga. I’m sure all kagehina shippers would be perfectly happy with a single official art declaring them as canon or even just Furudate confirming it. It isn’t exactly necessary for there to be a large explanation for it either; it could probably be summed up in a sentence or two if necessary. To interfere the least with the storyline, they could be confirmed as becoming a couple in either their second/third year of high school or after the point where the manga ends. I’m regarded to whether it is “family friendly” or not, official art or a simple confirmation statement would not effect this in any way. If the edit was brought into the anime, however, it would show lgbtq+ representation and possibly grab a larger following due to the franchise’s acceptance of a canon gay couple.
